NZ music making its way to big and small screens
24 March, 2006 -- The next US drama you see on TV or new computer game you buy may contain a surprisingly familiar sound.
New Zealand music is making its way to major Hollywood studios and key tastemakers in the independent sector, under a project developed by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise which saw a unique CD compilation of New Zealand music making its way to US-based entertainment conglomerates and companies such as Sony, NBC, Walt Disney, Chop Shop, Lions Gate Entertainment and Electronic Arts.
The aim of the project is to leverage off New Zealand's high profile in Los Angeles, to get New Zealand music noticed and used by entertainment industry buyers, music supervisors, games developers, media and publishers.
"Successful placement of music in international feature films, television, television commercials, video games and other digital content can have a significant direct economic benefit for the artist and for New Zealand exports," says Kaye Glamuzina NZTE creative industries manager.
"It’s a smart way of targeting high-value niches and making long-term connections with key players and influencers in the industry," she adds.
Feedback from the US is already positive "New Zealand music, my best kept secret that is about to become no longer a secret!" quipped Paul Broucek, Executive Vice President of Music at New Line Cinema
Artists featured on the first issue are:
Dave Dobyn
Elemeno P
Evermore
Brooke Fraser
Finn Brothers
The Rock and Roll Machine
The Brunettes
The Checks
Breaks Co-op
The Feelers
Te Vaka
Music was selected by two independent US experts with substantial experience in the licencing market.
