Concern over Kapiti rail improvement delays
A draft Wellington Regional Passenger Transport plan that proposes putting projects like the Raumati Railway Station
park and ride service back at least another four years is concerning Kapiti Coast District Council.
Chair of Kapiti’s Environment & Regulatory Committee, Diane Ammundsen, who attended this week’s meeting of the Regional Land Transport Committee, says
she’s appalled that the draft put before the Committee takes projects that were already promised, and should be under
construction, right back to the drawing board.
“Kapiti’s commuters were promised these projects and improvements more than four years ago. They shouldn’t go back for
reconsideration; they’re already promised and Kapiti’s commuters have waited quite long enough.
“These proposals would put back the start of work by at least four years, possibly more, and the Paraparaumu parking
congestion needs addressing right now.
“I’m very disappointed with this approach and even more disappointed that you have to read the small print in order to
find the change.
“Better public transport and access is a key to cutting down congestion on the western corridor roads and the sooner
construction begins on the agreed designs for Raumati Railway station and carpark the better,” Diane Ammundsen said.
