New Zealand Aviation Industry Capability To Be Showcased

Today New Zealand Trade and Enterprise announced it is joining with a group of New Zealand aviation companies to
showcase New Zealand’s aviation capability.
The exhibition of New Zealand’s aviation industry’s products and services will happen along side the International
Association of World Airports annual conference, which will be hosting up to 700 of the world’s top aviation executives
in Auckland later this year, including media from the USA, China, and India.
David Penny, Specialised Manufacturing Sector Director for NZTE says this is the first time New Zealand has hosted an
aviation event of this magnitude.
“This is an amazing opportunity for New Zealand aviation companies to collectively demonstrate their products and
services to high-powered industry leaders and make international connections with delegates.”
Past exhibitions held in conjunction with the conference have generated US$25 million in business for exhibitors. The
global aviation engineering market is growing rapidly and is estimated to be worth up to $50.8 billion by 2007 and up to
$61.7 billion by 2012.
NZTE is working alongside six companies involved in the New Zealand Airport Technical Suppliers (NZATS) group, with
Glidepath, a company specialising in airport baggage and cargo handling, security, and parcel sorting systems, taking a
lead role in organising the exhibition.
Margot Bowker, Glidepath’s Marketing and Communications Manager, says the event is a golden opportunity to connect with
potential global customers, and put the spotlight on New Zealand.
“We attend similar events in different parts of the world, but the high freight costs have made it impossible for us to
showcase our actual product and we are always up against other competitors. In Auckland we will be the sole exhibitor,
and will have our baggage handling technology fully operational at Auckland Airport.
“We have invited a number of clients to come down to New Zealand for the week to see our systems in action. It’s a once
in a blue moon opportunity to show investors and buyers New Zealand’s world-leading capability.”
NZTE Event Manager Lynne Banford says the exhibition space will be set up to look like the interior of an airport, with
the New Zealand-made technology on show including baggage conveyer belts, baggage handling and security systems,
mirroring technology, departure and arrival boards, trolley systems and other aviation support technology.
New Zealand’s aviation capability will be branded under NZTE’s New Zealand New Thinking initiative, which is designed to
position New Zealand internationally as a creative, innovative, and technologically advanced country.
The ACI world and Pacific Conference and Exhibition 2005 will be held at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland from
5 – 9 November.
