PMP acquires Magazzino subscription operation
PMP Limited subsidiary, Gordon and Gotch, has purchased a majority shareholding in magazine subscription company Magazzino Subscriptions Services Ltd.
Gordon and Gotch is New Zealand’s largest independent magazine distributor. It also owns the country’s largest magazine subscription management business, Mercury.
The Magazzino subscription business will be rebranded “MercurySubs” effective from 1 August. Magazzino is New Zealand’s leading specialist magazine and periodical retailer. The chain of Magazzino retail stores was not purchased as part of the deal, only the subscription business unit.
PMP Chief Executive, Rodger Shepherd, says the purchase is a natural fit for PMP.
“We are delighted to be able to extend the services we offer our publishing clients in New Zealand,” says Mr Shepherd.
“MercurySubs will extend PMP’s offer to include a subscription agency function that aims to grow the overall magazine subscription market using direct marketing and its leading website. We believe we can add significant value to the existing business by partnering with the previous owner and manager, Stuart Shepherd.
“Combined with PMP’s marketing and distribution services, we believe MercurySubs will quickly establish itself as a leading overall brand in the magazine industry - being the place to buy magazines. The business is completely independent and not aligned to any one publisher.”
Mr Rodger Shepherd says it will be business as usual for Magazzino’s existing customers as the operation moves to the new brand but continues with its existing management.

Gordon and Gotch forms just one part of PMP’s business. Its other divisions – PMP Micromarketing, PMP Digital, PMP Print and PMP Distribution – provide services in database marketing, digital premedia, design, printing, photography and letterbox distribution, creating a suite of smarter print media solutions that deliver.
