DSA Slams Poor Ethics Following Prosecution
"The successful prosecution of Home Shop sends a clear signal to mobile shopping companies about the need to make sure
they comply with the law!"
"There is no excuse for the types of actions for which Home Shop was prosecuted whether they are involved mobile
shopping or main street retailing" said Garth Wyllie Executive Director of the Direct Selling Association.
"This is about ethics and ensuring the customer gets a fair deal" he said.
"Home Shop is not a member of the DSA and it is poor business to offer consumers illegal copies of products whether
clothing or other goods" said Mr Wyllie.
The DSA has member companies who must comply with the industry code of practice which gives consumers far greater
protection when problems occur.
Consumers should ask door to door sellers whether they belong to the DSA. If they are not a member then consider not
dealing with them.
To ensure consumer protection the DSA operates a Code of Practice which prescribes self regulation to its members giving
consumers more rights that are offered under laws such as the Fair Trading Act or the Consumer Guarantees Act.
