Eden Park Reaches New Heights With Telecom Media Centre
Eden Park’s standing as New Zealand’s premier rugby stadium has been raised another level with the completion of the
Telecom Media Centre.
The new purpose-designed facility is located above the Southern Stand and sits 35 metres above the playing field on the
halfway line.
The Centre has capacity for 85 print media, plus five boxes for radio or TV broadcasters. Each print journalist has
phone and Xtra broadband access to enable them to despatch their match reports as quickly and efficiently as possible.
"The Telecom Media Centre is a significant step in the continual process of improving the facilities at Eden Park", said
John Alexander, Chief Executive of the Eden Park Trust Board.
"The Media Centre will enable Eden Park to meet the modern communications requirements of both print and electronic
journalists from a superb viewing platform. We are very fortunate that Telecom has joined with us in the development of
the Media Centre.
“Telecom is recognised as both a strong supporter of New Zealand rugby and as a supplier of leading edge
telecommunications products and services will ensure that journalists using the Media Centre have the very best
telecommunications support."
Telecom’s GM of Telecom Business Solutions Mark O’Donnell said the Telecom Media Centre underlines Telecom’s
long-standing support for rugby at all levels in New Zealand.
“Our sponsorship of this facility is a significant and logical extension of our commitment to both Auckland and New
Zealand rugby.
“World-class media facilities are an essential part of rugby today and the investment we’ve made in the Telecom Media
Centre can only enhance New Zealand’s bid to host events such as the 2011 Rugby World Cup,” he said.
As well as sponsoring the All Blacks, Telecom is involved with each of New Zealand’s Rebel Sports Super 12 franchises,
with Air New Zealand NPC teams, club rugby and the AXA International Sevens tournament in Wellington.
