Stay Connected – Stay Safe! Travel Website Launches Gap Year Safety Campaign.
A global traveller’s website, launches it’s ‘Stay Connected – Stay Safe’ campaign aimed at keeping students who plan to travel in their Gap Year, in touch with their families regularly.
PlanetReunited.com is working with Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation, a charity set up after the tragic death of student Caroline Stuttle on her Gap Year in Australia in 2002. It has supported the charity since September 2003 and works with them to promote travel safety awareness for young backpackers.
The campaign emphasises the importance of keeping in contact with family back home, whilst away travelling. It is crucial for young people abroad to take practical steps to limit potential concern for their parents. Director Tracey Davies said ‘All parents worry when their children are away, we just want young travellers to think, once a week, let Mum and Dad know that they’re OK and safe, it’s a simple request but very easily forgotten.’
The campaign promotes the use of tools such as PlanetReunited’s TravelSlog a unique service which enables their members to contact everyone for the price of one text message. It’s easy to use and means that they can keep in touch, easily, cheaply and from anywhere.
Tens of thousands students a year take a Gap Year between A levels and University, many will seize this opportunity to see the world. The ‘Stay Connected – Stay Safe’ campaign encourages them to think about keeping in contact regularly with their parents to avoid them any undue worry. Although the underlying threat of terrorism is not putting the majority of young people off travelling, it is a situation in which everyone needs to be aware of.
The ‘stay connected – stay safe’ campaign promotes awareness, offers safety advice, planning tips and up-to-date traveller news from around the world. PlanetReunited.com is promoting the campaign, through the press, online and direct to students at gap year fairs throughout the country.
