New on-demand interpreting service for visitors and migrants launched
A convenient low cost, on demand interpretation service designed to take the frustration out of every day transactions
for non-English speakers when they are in New Zealand has been launched by iSpeak Languages Ltd
"The new iSpeak service has been designed to help visitors or migrants feel more confident about travelling in New
Zealand and dealing with a large range of NZ services," said Chris Penman, Director of iSpeak. "With iSpeak, callers can
quickly get help from a live interpreter 24 hours a day just by dialling 0900 ISPEAK (0900 47732) from their telephone
or mobile phone."
“Many tourists and migrants face frustrating and sometimes embarrassing situations when the right words or phrases
cannot be found to express their true intentions. Some people may choose to feign understanding if they find
communication too difficult," said Mr Penman. "iSpeak can ensure true meanings and intentions are made clear
immediately."
Mr Penman said the service can be used in situations ranging from taxi and rental car hire, booking agents and
hotel/motel check-ins, to doctor visits. Interpretation is offered in Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese, Korean and
German. The cost of the call ($2.95 plus GST per minute) is charged to the caller's phone account, including
international roaming phones*.
“Visitor satisfaction and numbers can only increase if language barriers are removed," said Mr Penman.
