ADT Security Solutions Reduces Lost Inventory
(Auckland. August 3, 2003) - ADT Security, a division of Tyco Services, will preview its new RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) inventory tracking solutions at the 2003 Asian Retailers’ Conference and Exhibition, to be held in
Christchurch in September this year.
RFID is a complete inventory management tool, which automatically captures data using radio signals. ADT's inventory
tracking products are directed at reducing store out-of-stocks and excess distribution centre operating costs. RFID
solutions can have a significant impact on the operations of both retailers and product manufacturers. Traditionally,
retail shrink has been viewed as store-level employee theft and shoplifting. While theft-related shrinkage presents
tremendous challenges, significant losses and missed profits also occur in the supply chain. Losses due to inventory
mismanagement, incorrect shipments, paperwork errors, and perishable spoilage as well as outright theft are staggering.
To help improve business operations at each of these levels, ADT is taking a holistic approach to technology and the
solutions it provides to both its retail and consumer goods manufacturer customers, said John Smith, Head of the Retail
Solutions Group for ADT Security.
“There are tremendous opportunities for improving visibility of goods through the supply chain," Smith said. "ADT's new
RFID products will help companies in the retail supply chain track movement of goods, identify arrival of critical
shipments and verify contents of incoming cartons. The result should be a reduction in key warehousing and distribution
costs like labour expense, charge-backs, returns and theft."
Smith adds, “ADT is committed to providing solid solutions that are modular, flexible, and compatible with our
customers' existing technology infrastructures. ADT's RFID approach is to offer solutions that work with
industry-standard protocols and that allow users to expand and change their RFID network as the technology evolves.”
ADT currently provides Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) solutions to more than 80% of the world’s top 100 retailers
and the new RFID product line is part of the company's Complete Inventory Management solution. This initiative focuses
on protecting a retailer's entire operation by providing EAS in the store, RFID in the supply chain, and access control,
intrusion detection and digital video systems throughout a company's facilities.
John Smith will be speaking on RFID and other retail anti-theft solutions at the ARCE. John has worked in the loss
prevention industry for many years, having spent the last 5 years with Sensormatic , the world’s leading brand in
Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) and retail anti theft solutions, and now a brand of ADT. Prior to joining
Sensormatic, John was Managing Director, Chubb Electronic Security U.K. Ltd. Before joining Chubb Electronic Security
U.K. Ltd., he was Chief Operating Officer for Automated Security Holdings (ASH) plc U.K.
ADT will be exhibiting at the exhibition and would welcome retailers to come along and see the latest technology
available in the market and discuss their individual security requirements.
