Tranz Rail clears the dust on coal capability
Tranz Rails National Manager for bulk freight Steve Muir says he is surprised at reports today by Solid Energy that the coal company could not achieve extra growth until a long-term agreement had been reached with Tranz Rail.
"We reached a long term agreement with Solid Energy in 1999 and it is for 10 years. In 2002 we added an extra 22 hopper wagons to provide increased capacity and certainly we have the capability to increase our current tonnage .
"Tranz Rail has the capability to carry in excess of 4 million tonnes, it is just a case of increasing the number of and size of the trains. We can carry more volume with additional equipment in agreement with Solid Energy.
"Tranz Rail values giving key customers the services they ask for and we look forward to discussions with Solid Energy about future requirements they want to support, "says Mr Muir.
