Agreement on growth but action awaited
The growth policy package released yesterday by the NZ Chambers of Commerce means there is now unanimity among all business groups on the need for action to deliver accelerated growth, says Business NZ.
Chief Executive Simon Carlaw says the level of business agreement on the steps necessary to achieve sustainable economic growth of the order advocated this week by the Prime Minister should be sending a clear message to Government.
"The message is that it's not possible to cherry-pick among growth policies to select only some, or to undertake the journey by small increments. The gap between us and Australia is already too big for this, and is growing," Mr Carlaw said.
"Business clearly wants policies and priorities to reduce the barriers to growth, like employment costs, the Resource Management Act and tax levels that are increasingly out of kilter with our competitors.
"Until this happens, talk about growth will stay simply talk about growth."
