Land Rover swaps mud-plugging for fuel-sipping
The latest car distributor to lodge an entry in the 2002 EnergyWise Rally is Land Rover New Zealand.
Land Rover, noted for its distinctive vehicles which combine sophisticated style and capable on-road manners with
world-famous off-road versatility, would not normally be associated with an event designed to highlight fuel efficiency,
but the company sees this as an opportunity to demonstrate that Land Rover buyers don’t have to sacrifice fuel economy
for the rugged outdoor lifestyle that the marque is renowned for.
The Land Rover Freelander TD4 E is powered by a 2.0 litre common-rail turbo diesel engine which is notable for its
combination of strong performance and remarkable fuel economy. It will be driven by Alastair Sloane, Motoring Editor of
the New Zealand Herald.
During the four day event, which starts in Auckland on 11 November, the Freelander will have a head to head battle with
the Suzuki Grand Vitara TDi driven by race and rally ace Grant Aitken.
