Commission Invites Telecommunication Industry Registrations
The Commerce Commission advises telecommunications industry participants interested in voting on industry codes to apply to the Commission for registration.
Under the Telecommunications Act, industry participants who meet relevant criteria are entitled to register with the Commerce Commission to vote on draft codes for regulated services developed by the Industry Forum.
The Commission is encouraged by news this week that the forum is soon to be established by key industry participants. The Commission has already received applications from Telstra Clear, Telecom New Zealand, Vodafone and TeamTalk.
The Commission will commence registration of applications on 2 April 2002.
Background
The Telecommunications Act 2001 provides that:
A person who provides a telecommunications service by means of some component of a PSTN or PDN that is operated by that person is entitled to register with the Commission for the purpose of voting on a draft code.
