Economic Survey Of Manufacturing: December 2001 Quarter
Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales for the December 2001 quarter increased by 0.1 percent, compared with the
September 2001 quarter, according to Statistics New Zealand. Sales peaked in the June 2001 quarter after a sustained
period of growth since the June 1999 quarter.
Seven out of 15 industries recorded increases in seasonally adjusted sales in the December 2001 quarter, compared with
the September 2001 quarter. One industry (furniture and other manufacturing) remained unchanged while the remaining
seven industries recorded a decline in seasonally adjusted sales over the same period.
With the effect of price changes removed, seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales increased by 1.0 percent, compared
with the September 2001 quarter. Nine out of 15 industries recorded lower sales volumes in the December 2001 quarter,
compared with the September 2001 quarter.
