Growth in Manufacturing Sales Slows

Economic Survey of Manufacturing: September 2001 quarter
Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales for the September 2001 quarter decreased by 2.4 per cent compared with the June 2001 quarter, according to Statistics New Zealand. The trend in manufacturing sales declined 0.4 per cent in the September 2001 quarter after increasing for the past 10 quarters.
Results were mixed across manufacturing industries, with seven out of 15 industries recording increases in seasonally adjusted sales between the June and September 2001 quarters. With the effects of price changes removed, seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales decreased by 1.8 per cent over the same period.
