New Dwelling Consents Stable
Building consents for 1,678 new dwelling units, worth $267.6 million, were issued in September 2001, according to
Statistics New Zealand. This follows 2,020 new dwelling units, valued at $301.4 million, authorised in August 2001.
The number of new dwelling units continues the pattern evident since June 2000 where the number of new dwelling units
has mostly ranged between 1,500 and 1,800 per month.
Non-residential building consents issued in September 2001 were valued at $197.7 million. Consents issued for offices
and administration buildings comprised $42.1 million of the total. Factories and industrial buildings contributed $41.5
million followed by education buildings with $26.8 million.
The total value of all building consents issued in September 2001 was $528.6 million. Brian Pink Government Statistician
