Telecom Launches Wireless Data Programme

Published: Tue 14 Aug 2001 04:06 PM
Telecom Mobile today launched a new wireless data programme, d>zone, for the development of new ways in which customers can use their mobile phones to seek information, be entertained, or transact business.
d>zone starts with a presentation series to IT professionals, starting in Wellington today and travelling to Christchurch and Auckland.
“d>zone is about building a community in which wireless developers can thrive,” said Mohan Jesudason, General Manager Telecom Mobile. “These are creative, innovative people with some fantastic ideas that will make the lives of our customers richer. The kinds of wireless products and services range from mobile banking, to paying for a range of items using your phone, to managing sales orders.
“The possibilities are endless and New Zealand has a wealth of talent. Telecom wants to help those people develop those great ideas and ensure our customers can use them.”
“Up to now the mobile phone has centred around people talking to each other and sending short test messages. That’s only the start.”
Mr Jesudason said by becoming a member of d>zone, the wireless industry can access information, the very best technologies and the resources they need to deliver innovative, quality wireless data services for customers.
“Our new cdma network creates exciting new opportunities for wireless data because there is no better technology platform,” Mr Jesudason said.
“Among other benefits, d>zone Partners will have access to our Technical Solution Centre. The centre has been established to allow for testing and showcasing emerging wireless data solutions and technology.
“Partners will also have the support of a dedicated Telecom partner manager and benefit from the expertise and global reach of our alliance partners”, Mr Jesudason said.
“Telecom expects that wireless data solution providers, wireless data consultants, independent software vendors, Internet developers, IT distributors, hardware vendors, and system integrators, are among those IT professionals that will want to become members of d>zone.
IT professionals from all over New Zealand are invited to attend d>zone presentations in Wellington today (14 August), Christchurch on Thursday (16 August) and Auckland on Friday (17 August).
The presentation line-up includes guest speakers from Lucent Technologies, Openwave, Microsoft, Telenor of Norway - the people behind the djuice& mobile portal Telecom launched recently in New Zealand – and Telecom.
Registration for these free presentations is available online at www.telecom.co.nz/enterthedzone
