Telecom Mobile And ASB Bank Deliver New Zealand’s First Commercial Mobile Banking Service
ASB BANK has selected Telecom’s new cdma mobile network to deliver New Zealand’s first commercial WAP-based banking
service.
ASB BANK customers will now be able to check statements and account balances, transfer funds, and view transactions on
the screen of their Telecom cdma mobile phone.
The Mobile Phone Banking service is based on WAP (wireless application protocol) across Telecom Mobile’s cdma network.
Telecom’s cdma service was selected by ASB BANK because of its high level of security, ease of use and attractive
pricing.
Telecom Mobile, Manager Wireless Data Group, Nic Holdgate said the strengths of cdma meant Telecom could deliver
something customers would love.
“Cdma uses sophisticated encryption techniques to protect privacy. In addition we have installed a further layer of
security, given its banking use. Our WAP functionality is easy to use, quick to link into and best of all the service is
free to join.”
“We know from our trial last year that customers really want mobile banking services. Imagine being able to check your
balance while you are at the supermarket and transferring some funds on the spot to cover the value of your purchase,”
Mr Holdgate said.
“It’s fast, easy and affordable.”
Telecom and ASB BANK have worked closely together to develop the service. One of Telecom’s key strategies is to develop
relationships with leading organisations to provide innovative services for customers.
