PSA welcomes State’s
‘end of uncertainty’
The PSA, the union representing State Insurance workers, said today’s announcement of the company’s sale to NRMA
insurance was ‘a welcome end to the uncertainty that has been hovering over State staff for a considerable time.’
‘That uncertainty has been wearying made things very hard for what is a large and loyal group of employees.
‘So, because of that, in the first instance we welcome today’s announcement,’ the PSA national secretary Richard
Wagstaff said.
‘But there are some important issues to be worked through with the new CEO as a result of this change, with the most
paramount being staffing levels.
‘At this stage State have not offered any guarantee to staff that there will be no redundancies. It is important the PSA
is central to happenings from here on in so we can robustly represent the very real needs and ambitions of our hundreds
of members,’ Mr Wagstaff said.
‘We are encouraged the new chief executive, David Smith, has already given a commitment to open and regular
communication with the PSA and to working with us,’ Mr Wagstaff said.
‘We in turn accept that in good faith and we will look ahead to a meeting next week with a certain confidence about the
future,’ he said.
