FlyingPig.co.nz launches recipe for online success
In a New Zealand first, FlyingPig.co.nz is giving all Kiwis who have an Internet web site the opportunity to make ‘money for jam’.
The programme, called affiliates, enables anyone with an Internet site to earn commission on sales from people they have referred to the FlyingPig.co.nz site.
Affiliate partners earn commissions of between five and 15 per cent on all sales — money for jam, FlyingPig.co.nz says.
Partners earn 15 per cent of sales resulting from a direct link to a book and five per cent for all other sales. FlyingPig.co.nz is offering 15 per cent commission on all book sales during the first month as part of an introductory promotion.
At today’s launch of the affiliate programme, FlyingPig.co.nz executive chairman Stefan Preston said the company expected to generate 10 per cent of its site revenues from affiliate relationships within three months of its launch.
“This is a great way to earn extra income for anyone with an Internet site,” Mr Preston said. “It’s simple and works for corporates, for small and emerging e-businesses and even for individuals with personal sites,” Mr Preston said.
“What we’re saying is, ‘send us a paying customer and we’ll pay you a commission’. It is a strategy pioneered very successfully by leading international e-commerce player Amazon.com and one that is taking off world-wide.”
Mr Preston said FlyingPig.co.nz had already created affiliate relationships with Xtra (xtra.co.nz), New Zealand’s leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), TVNZ (nzoom.com), NZGirl (nzgirl.co.nz) and Emale (emale.co.nz).
“The programme enables affiliate partners to add depth and relevance to their site and to provide their visitors with the convenience of online shopping right at the time they are searching for more information. By providing timely, relevant information, Internet site owners are more likely to have their address bookmarked by their visitors.
“Site owners are able to add features to their sites without having to invest in developing e-commerce functionality. These include things like shopping carts and payment functions.
“The site owners just decide which product they want to feature on their site and pick them up from our site,” Mr Preston said.
“There’s some excellent reasons for New Zealanders to use FlyingPig.co.nz instead of an international e-commerce site.
“Delivery fees do not attract commission but they make up a big proportion of the final cost of products bought from similar international sites. At FlyingPig.co.nz there is a flat delivery fee of only $3 so the lion’s share of the total fee is commission bearing.”
FlyingPig.co.nz has called the affiliate programme Pig’s Partners. The launch promotion is called Money for Jam because the phrase demonstrates the concept of a return without any financial commitment.
One of the first to sign up has been Tauranga-based jam and sauce manufacturer The Pantry Shop (www.pantry.co.nz).
The Pantry Shop owner Sandra Tanner was formerly a systems administrator and analyst with a London-based merchant bank and moved to Tauranga as a lifestyle choice.
“FlyingPig.co.nz’s affiliate programme is a win-win situation for everyone. It’s a bonus for us is it will cost nothing and yet we have the opportunity of earning from it. It stacks up as a good programme and we’re looking forward to being part of it.”
The affiliate programme launch follows the announcement last week (March 16) of an online traffic flow and content agreement between FlyingPig.co.nz and leading ISP, Xtra.
Xtra Online Services Director Jeff Bennet said the portal gained added depth to its site through its new affiliate agreement.
“This programme has major benefits for all concerned — for FlyingPig certainly but also for Xtra and our customers.
“This is an alliance with the leading business-to-consumer Internet site in New Zealand so it enables us to enhance our service by marrying product with content,” Mr Bennet said.
Xtra has more than 250,000 customers and its base is growing by 10,000 customers every month.
Mr Preston said the programme would go live on April 3 and registrations could be made online now at http://affiliate.flyingpig.co.nz.
He said people wishing to find out more about the FlyingPig.co.nz affiliate programme could visit the affiliate site (http://affiliate.flyingpig.co.nz) or e-mail affiliate@flyingpig.co.nz. They could also contact the company’s head office in Auckland on 0800-FLYING (359-464).
FlyingPig.co.nz presently markets 1.5 million books, videos, stationery and software and plans to add several new categories in the coming months.
