Establishment of City of Manukau Education Trust Finalised
The establishment of the City of Manukau Education Trust has been finalised, with the Mayor of Manukau Sir Barry Curtis
signing the charter document today.
The Trust has been formed following a recommendation from the Manukau Education Strategy working party. It aims to
promote effective education in Manukau and will address issues identified in the strategy such as: the need for a
consistent approach by educational agencies, effective distribution of services and strong advocacy on the city's
educational needs. It will also endeavour to reduce duplication of educational services and to promote community-based
educational activities.
"Education and lifelong learning not only enriches individual lives, it also plays a crucial role in the development and
future of Manukau," says Sir Barry. "The City of Manukau Education Trust will work in collaboration with education
providers to identify education needs and develop strategies which will achieve the best delivery of education services
to our city's diverse communities."
The Trust comprises nine representatives from the private, business and educational sectors who have an interest in
education. The Trust is currently seeking an executive officer to provide support and management. The Manukau Institute
of Technology will provide accommodation and administrative support while Council has allocated funds for a period of
three years after which the Trust is to source its own funding.

members of their communities and have shown a commitment to education and the future of Manukau. With their input I am
sure we will see progress in meeting the specific educational challenges which face our city now and in the future."

Sharon Wilson, Tamaki Ki Raro Trust; Bev McConnell, Manager; Fa'afua Leavasa-Tautolo, Education Review Office; Kit Wong,
Kit Wong Consultants Ltd; Stuart Middleton, Auckland College of Education; Dr Peter Goldsmith, Fraser Thomas Ltd; Derek
Lowe, Radio Works NZ Ltd and Cyril Manley, Kaumatua.
