Wellington Weather Incidents - 6.20am Update From Wellington City Council

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to take special care this morning due to the likelihood that more slips and trees may have come down around the city during the night.
Update on the major slip on The Terrace:The Terrace between Ghuznee Street and Buller Street will remain closed until further notice.Contractors have capped the gas main at either side of the slip as the ruptured gas lateral is buried below the slip material. Approximately 10 properties do not have gas supply as a result.The slip has affected the stability of a house and a large tree.About 12 households have been evacuated as they are in danger from either the slip or the tree if it falls.Welfare Services have arranged emergency accommodation for some of the people affected.A geotech engineer will assess the stability of the slip face and bank tomorrow.Te Aro School will remain open and can be accessed from The Terrace via Buller Street or Abel Smith Street.Contractors will be onsite 24/7 monitoring the closure until further notice.
