Henderson-Massey Local Board chair Shane Henderson's run for Auckland Council’s Waitakere ward has received a boost today as Waitakere City's former mayor Sir Bob Harvey has endorsed Shane for the upcoming elections.
Sir Bob said "I've seen a lot of good candidates but Shane is right up there and I really want him to be the next representative for the west on the Auckland Council."
I think we need a unifying voice, we need someone who understands the West. He understands the West, he's a great candidate. and I’m here to endorse him."
Shane Henderson, 31, is a former lawyer and the current chair of Auckland's Henderson-Massey Local Board.
Since first being elected in 2013, Shane has worked hard for more investment into West Auckland’s town centres and local parks, including a revitalisation of Henderson, and has been fighting for a public swimming pool in Massey.
“As councillor, I’ll continue to work with local residents to make the West a place where we are proud to live, work and have fun.”
As a child growing up in the West, I looked up to Sir Bob who accomplished so much for us in his six terms as Mayor of Waitakere.
His legacy is still around us in our communities, and I’m honoured to receive his endorsement and ongoing support.“
Shane will be seeking the Labour nomination for Waitakere, and the results of that process will be announced soon.
