Please attribute to Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Cranshaw:
Police have laid charges against a 24-year-old woman following the death of toddler Comfort Joy Witeri-Thompson.
The 18-month-old died in Waikato Hospital on July 24th following an incident at a Tirau address.
The woman’s charges are in relation to offending against Comfort, but not in relation to her death.
She appeared in Rotorua District Court this morning.
Further charges are likely as the investigation into Comfort’s death continues.
As this matter is now before the court Police cannot comment further.
