Attributable to Inspector Wade Jennings, Hutt Valley Area Prevention Manager:
Hutt Valley Police have caught three burglars in the act this afternoon, thanks to assistance from the public.
Around 2pm Police received a call to report three people had broken into a property in Woburn and made off with a bicycle.
Police responded, immediately apprehending one of the offenders.
The two others ran off, fleeing through a number of other properties.
Members of the public helped attending officers by keeping an eye on the offenders and providing information on their direction of travel.
The two outstanding offenders were located a short distance away and all three, aged 16, 18 and 19, have been taken into custody.
The bicycle has also been recovered and will be returned to its owner.
Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in catching these three offenders and returning stolen property to its rightful owner.
This is a great example of working together to keep our community safe.
