Submissions on the Otago Regional Council draft long term plan close next week
The Otago Regional Council is reminding people that submissions on its draft long term plan for 2018-2028 close next
Friday (11 May).
The Council’s consultation document on the plan was distributed to mailboxes region-wide last month. As well as seeking
any general feedback on the draft plan, three specific topics are being consulted on. These are: the social, economic
and environmental impacts of climate change; extending the programme for water monitoring; and next steps in the
strategy for water quality. Council’s preferred options, and other potential options, are outlined in the consultation
document.
A fortnight-long roadshow across 8 destinations in Otago saw staff and Councillors talking with hundreds of residents
about the draft plan in both meeting and drop-in formats, some of which featured Lab-in-a-box (Otago’s own mobile
science laboratory).
Regional Council Chairperson Stephen Woodhead said he was pleased with the volume of submissions received to date (245).
“Given the long term plan has a direct impact on not only Otago’s environment but also what you see on your rates bill,
we’d really encourage everyone to take the time to see what’s proposed and share your feedback.”
Submissions can be made online at yoursay.orc.govt.nz/forourfuture, or in writing by using the feedback form in the back of the consultation document. Submissions will also be accepted
by email to longtermplan@orc.govt.nz and by post.
