Update, Kopu fatal crash
Police can now release more details about the triple fatal crash just west of the Kopu Bridge on SH 25 yesterday.
Two cars were involved.
A local couple in their 60s were in one of the cars and died at the scene.
A 20-year-old man driving the other car also died at the scene.
His 54-year-old father was the front seat passenger and remains in Middlemore Hospital.
The crash is being investigated by the Serious Crash Unit but initial indications suggest the car driven by the 20-year-old crossed the centre line and collided with the other car.
Police’s thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved at this difficult time.
