Road Open/Closure Update - Plan Your Travel Today
Sh1 – South of Kaikoura Between Peketa And Goose Bay – Open with Escorted Convoys until Further Notice
State Highway 1 South of Kaikoura is currently open between Peketa and Goose Bay for travel through escorted convoys. The area is fragile so expect delays and allow extra time. If at all possible please consider delaying your travel.
Inland Route 70 – North of Mt Lyford to Kaikoura – Closed
Inland Route 70 is closed north of Mt Lyford to Kaikoura due to flooding at the Whalesback diversion (around 4km North of Mt Lyford). Geotechnical crew are on site and additional clean-up is underway along this route for minor slips in other areas. It is expected that this will remain closed throughout the day.
Sh65 Section of Alternate Route Between Picton And Christchurch – Open through a 1.5 Hour Diversion
A truck crash this morning south of the junction of SH65 and SH6 has closed this section of road with access provided through via a 1.5 hour diversion. Southbound traffic is being diverted at O’Sullivan’s Bridge, south of Murchison, onto SH6, then SH69 at Inangahua, then SH7 at Reefton which leads them through to Springs Junction. Northbound traffic is being diverted in the reverse direction. Due to the weather, please take extra care, drive to the conditions and allow plenty of time to help keep everyone safe on the road.
Thank you for your patience and support while our crews work hard to reopen and keep these roads as safe as possible.
