Motorists & the Environment Will Benefit from Waitomo’s New Fuel Stop in Palmerston North
PALMERSTON NORTH, 28 August 2017: Waitomo’s new fuel stop in Palmerston North will officially open tomorrow, featuring
environmentally-friendly technology at the pump and competitive prices for motorists and truck drivers.
Waitomo is a 100% Kiwi-owned independent fuel supplier and Managing Director Jimmy Ormsby says the new fuel stop will
strengthen the company’s network across the Manawatu and lower North Island.
“We have had a lot of positive feedback and support for both our Foxton and Bulls fuel stops, so expanding to Palmerston
North was a logical step for us,” Ormsby explains. “We’re excited about being able to increase our business in the
region and would like to thank all our customers for their ongoing support.”
The new fuel stop, on the corner of Tremaine Ave and Roy St, will be the first in the region to feature vapour recovery
technology at both the tanker delivery point and at the pump. Vapour recovery helps reduce emissions and stops fuel
vapour from escaping into the atmosphere or being inhaled.
“It doesn’t change the amount of petrol you are dispensing – it simply captures the vapour that would normally be
displaced out of the fuel tank and escape into the atmosphere. It is a positive thing for the environment and our
customers’ health,” Ormsby says.
“This technology is very new and not many places in New Zealand have it yet. But Waitomo is committed to installing it
at every new fuel stop we open from now on. It’s great Palmerston North will benefit from this technology which is
produced by Gallagher just up the road in Marton.”
Waitomo’s new fuel stop will feature five new pumps dispensing petrol and diesel. A dedicated trucking lane will have
access to high flow pumps and Go Clear (Diesel Emission Fluid), while three outdoor payment terminals have been
installed so motorists can pre-pay using their credit card, eftpos or Waitomo’s own fuel card for vehicle fleets.
Waitomo Fuel Stop Manager Paul Easton says fuel stop Ambassadors will be on site for the first three weeks to help
customers get used to the pay’n’pump facilities. “The benefit of an un-manned site is that it’s low on overheads so we
can maintain competitive fuel prices to our customers.
“Waitomo is known for its competitive fuel prices which is ultimately what all New Zealand motorists and transport
operators want. By adding Palmerston North to our network, we have increased the amount of competition between fuel
companies in the region which has got to be good for all fuel users,” Easton says.
“As far as scale goes, we are tiny compared to the big oil companies but we are doing our best to bring a competitive
offer to the market. We get support not just for competitive pricing, but also because we are easy to deal with and we
do our best to perform to a high standard. We are just like most other Kiwi businesses in this respect.”
Easton says Waitomo is looking to expand further into the lower North Island in the near future.
