Horowhenua District Council's building control processes considered among the best
Horowhenua District Council’s building control processes have received the thumbs-up from the IANZ Building Consent
Authority.
Council has again gained IANZ accreditation, following its latest two-yearly reassessment carried out in the last week
of April 2017.
IANZ accreditation of building control processes within councils in New Zealand was introduced in 2006 as a means of
ensuring that a council’s building practices met criteria and standards across a number of regulated requirements.
Council’s Customer and Community Services Group Manager Monique Davidson said the IANZ assessors made very positive
comments.
“They gave the impression that what they saw here in Horowhenua was among the best around. They used terms such as ‘high
quality’, ‘exemplary’ and ‘fantastic’ - all a credit to the building consent team,” she said.
“This reflects the effectiveness of Horowhenua District Council’s procedures, systems and policies, which should give
all those in the building industry with confidence when dealing with Council.”
Mrs Davidson says this is significant as it shows that Council is well-positioned for the population, housing and
general economic growth underway in Horowhenua - thanks to the District’s affordable and attractive lifestyle offerings,
a strategic business location and improving transport and travel times south to Wellington, and strategic business
location.
She said that higher levels of housing and building investment in the District had been quite noticeable.
Since July 2016, Council has issued 513 building consents, to a value of $71.3 million; the highest figure in 10 years
and already more than double that of each full year between 2010 and 2013.
