Clean-up and Beach Hop continues
Beach Hop is revving ahead from Wednesday as planned.
Beach Hop organisers stated that "there are rumours circulating that Repco Beach Hop 17 has been cancelled/postponed due
to the recent bad weather the Coromandel experienced last week. This is simply not true! We'd be the first to know about
it if the event was cancelled and you would read about it right here," says the event organiser Noddy Watts.
The much anticipated Repco Beach Hop 2017 is New Zealand's biggest Nostalgia Festival with 5 days of fun and
entertainment beginning this Wednesday, 22 Marchwith the 'Go Waihi Warm Up Party' followed by Rock'n'Roll Circus
Tassles'n'Tease Burlesque show (R18).
On Thursday 23 March, the cruising continues to the Whitianga Beach Party,
In Whangamata the same night is the Snitch Classic Comedy Night at the Whangamata Woodstock tent (R18).

Last week our district had approximately 850ml of rainfall - which equates to what we normally get in one full year
during the recent storm.
"This was one major weather event for us," says Garry Towler, our Civil Defence controller and Area Manager for
Whangamata. "Despite the deluge Whangamata is open and ready for visitors this weekend, so if you've booked your
accommodation to come to Beach Hop, you should just do a double check with your provider to make sure your place is
ready for your stay," says Mr Towler.
One of the main holiday rental providers, Whangamata Real Estate says that they sent an alert to notify all their home
owners, and the majority have been to check their homes, or Whangamata Real Estate went to check on behalf. Those that
were damaged and unable to be used for accommodation over Beach Hop have been re-booked into other accommodation. If you
are concerned about your accommodation over Beach Hop, please contact the agency or individual you booked with to check.
Meanwhile our Council has appointed a recovery manager, following last week's weather event, who is now out in the field
assessing damage to the region - with the most affected areas being Tairua, Onemana, Opoutere and Whangamata. The
priority is assessing all of public reserve land and infrastructure (toilets, water and wastewater pipes, roads) along
with visiting private property owners who have been in touch to let us know they have been greatly affected.
Most of the damage that's occurred has been from slips and flooding.
