Waikato Waldorf School Medieval Carnival 2017 – Press Release
The most unique school fundraiser in the Waikato is back for its 21st consecutive year.
This time we’ve pulled out all the stops. Live Jousting, sword fighting, Roman legions, the Medieval Village, horse and
cart rides, games and challenges, have a go archery ... there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.
Our full contact armoured jousting display by the Guild of the Hawk, (a professional jousting team from north of the
Waikato) will run twice during the day along with other medieval and ancient history displays. We also have a full
program of musical entertainment which includes a performance by the popular children’s band Mr Roberelli.
The event has grown considerably in recent years, both in terms of the entertainment on display, but also the range of
activities available. Part of the unique charm of the Medieval Carnival is the enormous range of art, craft and
children’s games and activities on offer, such as crystal panning, wooden sword making, fishing, boat making, lucky dip,
wooden horse jousting, a Witches and Wizards Potion House, wand making, candle making, as well as a Craft Village with
spinners, weavers and other craft activities on display.
The free entry event is one day only, Sunday 26th March; opening at 10am and closing at 3pm.
The Medieval Village will be open to visit throughout the day. Much of the talent on display is local to the Waikato,
but many of the living history encampments come from all over New Zealand, with some groups travelling from as far
afield as Wellington to attend.
All jousting, marching, archery and duelling displays will take place on the school field at the centre of the event,
adjacent to the food stalls and banquet tables.
“This is going to be our biggest event ever,” Says Anna Blackler of the Parents Association. “Last year was so
successful we’ve had to really step up to top it”.
The Medieval Carnival is Educational, Enjoyable and Entertaining for the whole family. The Waikato Waldorf School and
Early Childhood Group provides an engaging education that affirms children as individuals. The guiding principles are
