Council contenders put their best feet forward
33 people have thrown their hats in the ring as candidates in the upcoming elections for Horowhenua District Council and
Foxton Community Board.
This includes four nominations for Mayor, 22 nominations for Councillors and seven nominations for Foxton Community
Board.
Deputy Electoral Officer Ian Tate says he is pleased with the level of interest from the community.
Local Government New Zealand’s Vote2016 campaign aims for a nationwide life in voter turnout in local elections to more
than 50 per cent – a first since the 1980s.
The national Vote2016 campaign will showcase the value local government provides to communities across the country, with
a strong focus on inspiring more New Zealanders to vote.
Voting papers will be sent out from 16 September 2016 and must be received by the council before midday on Election Day,
8 October 2016.
