Arrest made in attempted robbery
Christchurch Police have arrested a 24 year-old man in relation to attempted robbery and firearm offences.
At 8.00am this morning, the man has entered a dairy on Opawa Road shortly after it opened and has tried to take a number of items.
The owners of the dairy have intervened at which time the offender has left and taken off in a vehicle.
Police have set up cordons in the area and have located the man and vehicle on Tunnel Road where he was arrested.
Two firearms and a hatchet were also located in the vehicle.
The man will be charged on two assault with intent to rob offences, two unlawful possession of a firearm offences, and one possession of a restricted weapon offence.
The man will likely appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday, 1 August 2016.
As the matter is now before the courts, police are unable to comment further.
