Warning for Southland motorists - thick and low-lying fog affecting visibility
Motorists in Southland are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to take extreme care on the roads as thick, low-lying fog is affecting visibility across much of the region.
Saturday evening's foggy conditions have reduced visibility to as little as 30 metres in some areas.
Drivers are reminded to drive to the conditions and to ensure their headlights, not parklights, are on.
They are also asked to be very aware of other road users who may not be easily seen in the fog, such as cyclists and pedestrians, as well as slower traffic, including trucks and vehicles that may be towing trailers.
