Short delays Kaikoura highway, State Highway 1, for next four weeks
NZ Transport Agency crews are repairing areas of the state highway north and south of Kaikoura damaged by the sea over the next month.
There will be short delays of less than five minutes as the road will be reduced to single lane and controlled by traffic lights at each site, with a 30km/h speed limit.
Outside work hours and on weekends the normal speed in these winding, coastal areas of 80km/h will apply and the road will be open to two lanes.
• The first week of work starts Thursday, 5 May, from 7.30 am, 10 km south of Kaikoura. Work will run until 4.30 pm each week day.
• The second week of work is 8 km south of Kaikoura.
• The last two weeks of work are at Queen Victoria Rocks, on the north side of Kaikoura and Ohau Point Lookout.
Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright thanked all drivers for taking care near crews while this work is done before the winter. Times are approximate and weather dependent.
