Get your 'Game Hat' on for MindSports
Get your game hat on for the third annual New Zealand Festival of MindSports being held in Thames in May.
MindSports is a weekend full of games for all ages, celebrating our nation’s love of a wide range of board and card games.
Whether it's the strategic thrill of War Gaming, an epic hand of Duelling Samurai, board games that take you back to your childhood or the intense cranial strategy of Chess there is something for everyone.
"The festival gains momentum every year, and we expect this year to be as big if not bigger," says Marlene Perry, Community Development Officer for Thames-Coromandel District Council and the primary organiser of MindSports.
"It's a true community endeavour. All the different games are organised and run by dedicated teams of volunteers," says Mrs Perry.
There has been wide interest from outside the Coromandel, Ms Perry says, with people coming from across the Waikato and further afield to compete.
The events will be located at the Thames Civic Centre and cafes and bars in Thames on the weekend of 7 - 8 May, tickets are $10 per day, (under 16 free) and can be purchased from Eventfinder. www.eventfinder.co.nz/2016/mindsports-festival/thames
