Waitaki District shows significant improvements in guest nights
Guest nights in the Waitaki District increased by 8.9 percent for the month of January 2016. Total guest nights for the month of January 2015 were 68,031 compared with 74,348 for the month of January 2016.
For the year ending January 2016 there was a 3.9 percent increase over the end of year for January 2015. Total guest nights jumped from 387,842 to 402,901.
International guests rose significantly with an increase of 36.6 percent for the month of January, and 14.6 percent for the year ending January 2016. Domestic numbers were about the same.
The largest rise in accommodation type was Backpackers with a 25.9 percent increase for the month of January 2016. This was followed by Hotels at 19.4, Motels/Apartments 17.6 and Holiday Parks 3.7.
"The increase in guests nights in the Waitaki District confirms what we have all been seeing. There are definitely more visitors coming to our district, and it is pleasing to see the annual guest nights get past the 400,000 per year total".
