Wellington ready for fireworks display
The country’s largest annual fireworks display, the Wellington Sky Show, takes place on Saturday 7 November from9pm. Sky Show attendees can tune into The Hits (90.1FM) and ZM (90.9FM) for the synchronised soundtrack
Entertainment around the waterfront:
• Carnival rides will be operating in Waitangi Park from 6pm Friday evening until 1pm Sunday afternoon.
• Food vendors will be trading from 12 noon to 9.30pm on Saturday 7 November.
Traffic management:
A number of measures will be in place to keep congestion to a minimum and make sure emergency services are able to get through if necessary.
• Traffic management company EM Services will oversee traffic and parking restrictions around Mount Victoria and Oriental Parade.
• Many streets on Mount Victoria and Roseneath will be restricted to residents only, including those up the hill from the intersection of Hawker Street and Roxburgh Street.
• A one-way system will be put in place on Lookout Road between Thane Street and Alexandra Road from 6–10pm.
• Vehicle access to Clyde Quay Wharf (formerly the Overseas Passenger Terminal) will be restricted to residents only from 6–10pm.
Road closures:
• Evans Bay Parade will be closed to through-traffic from Cobham Drive and Wellington Road from approximately6–10pm. (Resident and emergency vehicle access only).
• Access to Lookout Road via Alexandra Road will be closed.
Public transport:
• The route 14 bus will be diverted due to expected congestion on the normal route.
• Extra capacity will be available on rail services on the Hutt Valley, Kapiti and Johnsonville lines before and after the event.
