One fatality following serious crash in Yaldhurst
Canterbury Police can confirm that there has been one fatality following a serious crash between a horse and motorcycle near the intersection of Pound Road and Yaldhurst Road at approximately 8.40pm last night (16 June 2015).
Police understand that the motorcycle was travelling east-bound on Yaldhurst Road has collided with one of the two unattended horses on the road. The horse that was hit by the motorcycle died at the scene. The rider of the motorcycle was also confirmed as deceased at the scene.
The death has been referred to the Coroner. No details of the deceased motorcycle rider will be released until formal identification and the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
Canterbury Police Serious Crash completed a scene examination overnight and investigations are continuing.
Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or saw any horses on the road last night to contact Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.
