Taitua’s Excellence Earns Trip Advisor Praise
Hamilton’s Taitua Arboretum has earned high praise from Trip Advisor, one of the world’s most influential travel
websites.
Trip Advisor has granted Taitua Arboretum a Certificate of Excellence, based on ratings provided by Trip Advisor members
who’ve written reviews of the facility. The arboretum’s reviews average out to 4.5 points out of the maximum of five.
Taitua Arboretum is 20 hectares, and includes a broad range of mature trees and shrubs which have been planted in recent
decades. Although it is just outside Hamilton’s city boundary, it’s managed by Hamilton City Council, and was originally
part of a farm owned by John and Bunny Mortimer, who donated it to the people of Hamilton.
Sally Sheedy, the Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Manager, says the Trip Advisor kudos reflects the beauty and
tranquillity of the arboretum, as well as the hard work of staff who manage the site.
“The Parks and Open Spaces staff take great pride in Taitua Arboretum: there is a beautiful collection of trees and
plants, and some gorgeous paths to wander through,” Miss Sheedy says.
“We’re very pleased to have the arboretum recognised in this way, and would encourage visitors and residents to go to
see for themselves just what a lovely place it is.”
The reviews featured on the website are glowing, and Trip Advisor’s ranking system listing Taitua Arboretum as “#5 of 30
things to do in Hamilton”.

The Trip Advisor accolade comes in the same month as the announcement of a Lottery Significant Project Fund grant of
$2.5 million to the ongoing development of Hamilton Gardens.
