Water take renewals

Water take renewals
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is notifying 52 applications to replace existing resource consents to take water from the Ngaruroro River and its tributaries and from adjacent groundwater.
The applications are for the renewal of existing takes, and some applicants have applied for smaller amounts while some have applied for an increase in the rate or volume of their take.
The applications are principally for irrigation use but are also for water to fill retention dams, for frost protection, spray filling and wash down for a wide range of horticulture, viticulture and agricultural requirements.
As takes from groundwater bores situated in the unconfined aquifer can have an effect on flows in the Ngaruroro and its tributaries, the resource consents are required to be notified the same as water takes directly from streams or the river.
The notification is being published in Hawke’s Bay Today on 3 June and on the regional council’s website www.hbrc.govt.nz. Submissions close on Wednesday 1 July at 5pm.
