Horowhenua flooding subsides and Emergency Operations Centre deactivated
Rain has eased about Horowhenua allowing surface flooding to subside considerably.
Horowhenua District Council has now deactivated its Emergency Operations Centre, however staff will continue to monitor the situation and weather overnight.
Council contractors remain out and about, working to return flood-affected roads to normal. Please note that some closures and detours are still in place.
Horowhenua Emergency Management Advisor Ross Brannigan said the District became saturated from persistent rain throughout the afternoon and that the water simply had nowhere to go in some places except for across roads and properties.
Mr Brannigan said as soon as the rain stopped, the flooding receded.
Council's phone number 06 366 0999 is serviced 24/7.
