"Waikato link road fatality update"
Waikato Police investigating yesterday's fatal collision between a contracting vehicle and a motorbike are working with WorkSafe NZ and on behalf of the Coroner to establish the circumstances of what occurred.
Detective Sergeant Dave Grace of the Waikato District Command Centre said emergency services were called to and area of road works on Island Block Rd, Meremere about 11.58am.
"The crash is currently under investigation by the Waikato Serious Crash and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Units working alongside WorkSafe NZ.
"It is too early to comment on the cause of the crash but initial indications are a female motorcyclist has lost her life after a road contracting vehicle has collided with her bike while the larger vehicle was reversing."
Mr Grace said a post-mortem examination would be conducted in Auckland today and Police are working to carry out a formal identification of the victim.
"NZ Police would like to express their sympathies to the victim's family for their loss and Victim Support are working closely with them.
"Yesterday's fatality was the tenth on Waikato roads in the past nine weeks and was followed overnight by a crash on Kennedy Bay Rd in the Coromandel where a woman suffered serious head injuries.
Clearly with so many incidents occurring on our roads there is a need for all road users to exercise the utmost caution and drive to survive."
