Three arrested in operation targeting supply of psychoactive substances"
Synthetic cannabis, cash, firearms, a taser, ammunition and a small amount of methamphetamine were seized during a series of search warrants in Taupo and Tokoroa yesterday.
Approximately 20 officers executed search warrants at three addresses to target the illicit supply of psychoactive substances - more commonly known as synthetic cannabis and controlled by the Psychoactive Substances Act 2013.
Three local people were arrested and charged as a result of the operation.
A man aged 28 from Tokoroa has been charged with possessing a psychoactive substance for the purpose of supply.
A man aged 35 from Tokoroa has been charged with possessing a psychoactive substance for the purpose of supply, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property.
A woman aged 28 from Tokoroa has been charged with possessing a psychoactive substance for the purpose of supply
Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Perks, Taupo Area CIB, said: “We know from talking to people in our communities that the harm caused by psychoactive substances is a significant concern.
The harm goes beyond the user of these products; it impacts on their families and their friends.
We talk of Christmas being a time for families and festive cheer, but there is no cheer for families suffering from violence and the unpredictable behaviour that can be caused by synthetic cannabis and other illicit substances, or the deprivation caused by money being spent on these substances.
We want families to feel safe, not only at Christmas but all year round, and we will continue to take positive action against offenders to eradicate the harm.”
If you see something that is suspicious; or suspect drug activity in your neighbourhood, please contact local Police.
