Police, Coastguard, Westpac Rescue and other Maritime resources are currently involved in searching for a missing fisherman in the Ti Point and Omaha estuary area, Auckland North. Police understand that the fisherman was in a small inflatable dinghy that has overturned in a gust of wind tipping the two occupants into the water about 11am today. The missing fisherman, who was not wearing a life jacket, has not been located since this incident despite an extensive shore line and water search.
The other occupant managed to make his way to safety and contacted Police via the 111 emergency line. Police will continue to coordinate the search. Further information will be made available when known.
