Napier Port Directors to be appointed
The former Chief Executive of the Port of Melbourne will be appointed as a director to the Port of Napier Limited at its
Annual General Meeting in December.
Stephen Bradford has extensive experience in the ports and maritime sector. He was head of Australia’s largest container
port for nine years, until he retired last year. He has also been general manager of a container shipping line with its
own terminal and general manager of a major container-handling and stevedoring business.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Investment Company Chairman Andy Pearce says the board is delighted to attract someone with Mr
Bradford’s experience. He replaces Paul Harper who is retiring after nine years as a port director.
Dr Pearce says the knowledge and expertise Mr Bradford will bring to Napier Port's Board greatly outweighs the small
extra costs of travel and accommodation involved compared with a New Zealand-resident director.
Current port director Jon Nichols will be re-appointed at the AGM for a further three years. He has been a Port Director
since 2007 and is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee.
Dr Pearce says Mr Nichols is highly regarded by the Napier Port board and both the outgoing and incoming Chairmen, and
retaining him on the board is important for continuity and institutional knowledge.
Both appointments were approved at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council meeting on 26 November.
