Key decisions from today’s Council meeting
Christchurch City Council met today and made the following decisions:
Council consents assignment lease to Canterbury Cricket Trust
The Council today approved to consent assignment of the Hagley Oval Pavilion lease with Canterbury Cricket Association
to Canterbury Cricket Trust (CCT). All associated costs will be met by CCT. Canterbury Cricket Trust was responsible for
raising funds to pay for the erection of the new pavilion and lighting towers at Hagley Oval.
Council approves restructure of Council Committees and subcommittees
The Council today received and approved a report recommendation from the Mayor to restructure governance and decision
making for all Council committees, hearings panels and subcommittees. The Council makes decisions on behalf of the
public interest, taking into account the needs of current and future generations and the resilience outcomes for the
city.
Beachville Road sea wall funding approved
Further funding for the Beachville Road Sea Wall project was today approved by the Council. This additional funding of
$580,000 will cover improvement considerations that were raised by stakeholders during the public notification of the
Resource Consent and will be sourced from the Facilities and Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The remaining $4.8 million
cost for the project will be funded jointly by the Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Council approves grant applications and withdrawals from Mayoral Relief Fund
The following grant allocations and withdrawals from the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund were approved at
today’s Council meeting.
• A grant of $100,000 to the St John Christchurch Area Committee towards the earthquake repairs and enhancement of St
John New Brighton Hall.
• A grant of $9653 to the Original Scripts Theatre School Trust towards rent and storage.
• A grant of $195,794 to the Christchurch Banks Peninsula War Memorial towards repairing and restoring the War Memorial.
• A grant of $1840 to the Woolston Development Project towards its Detailed Engineering Evaluation costs.
• Withdrawal of a $20,000 grant allocated to Training Ship Cornwell. Training Ship Cornwell has advised the Council that
they will not be rebuilding the facility.
• Withdrawal of a $9910 grant to the Contemporary Circus Trust. The Trust has informed the Council that they have been
unable to secure a lease on the building and seek to withdraw the grant application.
Council defers decision on disposal of properties on Hasketts Road
The Council today resolved to defer any decision on the sale and/or disposal of a number of Council-owned properties
until after the Environment Court processes have been completed. These houses have been adversely affected by noise
pollution from the nearby Ruapuna Raceway. Local residents groups have asked the Council to look at noise mitigation
options for the area.
Measures to improve parking and traffic flow at the Tannery Shopping complex
Cumnor Terrace will become one-way from south to north, between Maunsell Street and Garlands Road following approval of
the recommendation at today’s Council meeting. The Council has also requested staff to provide a report with a landscape
and amenity plan for the Cumnor Terrace River Corridor.
