Trash it forward
The popular creative competition Schools’ Trash to Fashion returns to the Corban Estate Arts Centre for the grand finale on the weekend 23-24 August.
The competition gives students the opportunity to take items deemed as trash and turn them into fashion and wearable art.
Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse says the event commits to environmental and green growth as part of Auckland’s vision to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2040.
“Schools’ Trash to Fashion is about encouraging young people to be innovative in design by using recyclable materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill,” she says.
“There are some incredibly thought provoking and creative designs that have come through this year. This is an eco-conscious fashion event that also shows Auckland’s emerging design talent.”
The theme this year, ‘Around the World’, is about celebrating Auckland and was inspired by the diverse cultures living in Auckland.
The competition is now so big that judging began in June with 10 live semi-final shows. The vibrant family-friendly grand finale featuring the top 120 designs will be held the weekend 23-24 August at Corban Estate Arts Centre, Henderson.
Come and support these emerging designers. Tickets are from $10 and can be purchased from www.eventfinda.co.nz or 0800 BUY TIX (289 849).
