Police Investigate Two Firearm Incidents in 24 Hours

Manawatü Police were kept busy with two separate firearm incidents in the last 24 hours.
The first was at approximately 11.00 am 09/08/2014 with reports of a firearm being discharged at a house in Oakley
Street, Palmerston North.
Armed Police responded and spoke to a number of persons who were present at the address.
No complaints were forthcoming.
This was followed by a second reported shooting that occurred in Makino Road, Feilding.
This occurred at approximately 8.50pm 09/08/2014.
As a vehicle was driven along Makino Road it was hit on the driver’s door by a single shot from what is believed to be a
shotgun.
The driver suffered a minor wound to his hand.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Palmerston North Hospital.
A nearby house was cleared by members of the Manawatü Armed Offenders Squad.
A 28 year old Feilding man was subsequently located a short distance away and arrested.
He is set to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Monday 11/08/2014 facing firearm related offences.
Detective Sergeant Dave THOMPSON states
“Police believe that the two incidents are related and that a dispute between two groups has escalated to a point where
an innocent member of the public has been caught up in the middle of it.
It’s with a huge cup of good luck that we are not dealing with a homicide.
Although some of the persons involved have gang associations this is not a gang related incident.
The two groups have now met and with this arrest Police believe the situation has been de- escalated.
Police are continuing with inquiries and ask anyone with information concerning either the incident on Oakley Street or
